In an interview with RTBF, Rachid Ben Salah claims to have sent a letter to the Brussels government with the aim of requesting the dismissal of the mayor of Molenbeek. “The objective of my complaint? Bringing serenity back to the municipal political debate. It aims to safeguard our institutions and remind political staff that at a certain point, when the cup is full, there are articles of law which allow us to say ‘stop’. The approach and its possible outcome would be unprecedented. Nevertheless, the idea is to recall that respect for the rights of municipal staff, political staff or citizens must be preserved”.

In his letter, Rachid Ben Salah relies on article 82 of the municipal law. “The Government may, for notorious misconduct or serious negligence, suspend or dismiss the mayor, who will be heard beforehand. The suspension cannot exceed three months.”
If Rachid Ben Salah wins his case before the municipal elections in October 2024, the PS will have to find a successor to Catherine Moureaux.
