The answer starts with a case three years ago.

At the beginning of 2020, Weitang Police Station received a call from people in the area, saying that someone had suffered investment and financial fraud. After police investigation, it was discovered that the victims of this case were located all over the country.
After continuous efforts to peel off the cocoon, the Jiashan police successfully identified an investment and financial management fraud gang headed by Han Moumou in June of the same year, and arrested a group of criminal suspects in one fell swoop.
But the case didn’t end there. After the suspect arrived at the case, the police further dug for clues. In June 2021, another fraud gang headed by “Mr. Mori” surfaced. Jiashan police took action once more and eliminated the gang.
In March this year, the property under the name of the “Sen Zong” gang was successfully executed through a court judgment. The execution amount was used to repay the victims’ defrauded money, and the case officially entered the stage of returning stolen goods.
The work of returning stolen goods was ultimately led by the law enforcement team of Weitang Police Station. But the problem also arises.
The 6 million yuan problem
If you think that returning stolen goods means returning the money to the original route, you are totally wrong. This is never an easy task.
Telecom fraud cases often involve multiple victims, each victim corresponding to a sum of money. Before returning the stolen goods, every fund must be checked repeatedly to ensure that the amount is correct.
If the victims are all local, then it’s easy to say that they can come to the door at any time to ask for verification. But if you’re out of town, it’s much more complicated.
Weitang Police Station is faced with this complicated situation. More than 6 million yuan in funds need to be returned to more than 70 victims, who basically come from all over the country.
Mr. Zhang from Yunnan is one of them. Perhaps the experience of being deceived made him particularly wary of calls from the police. No matter how detailed the police explained, he never believed it. In the next half year, the law enforcement team made one call following another, made one trip following another, and sent out more than 200 documents. The work was finally completed during this summer’s security crackdown.

After receiving the recovered money, many victims took the initiative to call the police station and wanted to send small gifts and souvenirs to the police to express their gratitude, but they were all rejected by the police. They had no choice but to change their way of thanking each other, and the police station received 50 banners and 30 letters of thanks in two months.
