At the start of the year, the sky fell on Carol Dupont’s head. The modeling store that she had run on rue de Bertaimont for around fifteen years was in fact closed by order of the city of Mons as a precautionary measure, the stability of the latter being called into doubt. Several attempts to reopen followed, without success, the damage resulting from a pipe leak being too significant.
Alas, the independent company closed its doors. After several months of hardship and uncertainty regarding her professional future, the latter has finally opened a tea store, located on rue du chemin de fer in Cuesmes. A somewhat unexpected reconversion but which brings Carole Dupont a feeling of serenity following these difficult ordeals.
Word of mouth does its job
“I found myself without income overnight, I absolutely had to find a new activity,” emphasizes the trader. “My husband has been a big tea lover for years and I really like coffee. There aren’t many stores left in Cuesmes. It was an opportunity to relaunch and offer a new offer.”
Last September, following six months of custom furniture construction, layout and contacts with suppliers, Perle de Thé officially opened its doors. “It’s a renewal for me, I feel much more peaceful today. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise, all that. At the beginning, it was mainly our relatives who visited us but today, word of mouth is doing its job.”
This Thursday, for example, it was a resident of the neighboring home, accompanied by her physiotherapist, who came to get some tea. “Each time, I offer a tea, an infusion or an herbal tea for tasting. It’s an opportunity to chat a little with customers.” It’s hard not to be tempted by one or another product whose scents fill the store.
For all tastes
“I offer natural or flavored green teas, infusions and herbal teas, roobois, black tea, flavored or not, white teas, oolong teas, coffees, mate or even matcha.” A few treats and honey from a local beekeeper complete the offer, also supported by accessories such as thermoses, teapots, tea boxes and tea balls.
Today, Carol Dupont enjoys working once more. “The places are as I imagined them, I feel good there and I am happy to come there every day. I think I have found my calling.” A nice conclusion following a forced closure and the end of an activity which worked very well.
