Integrative medicine, also known as alternative medicine, is a specialty of the medical branch that is dedicated to treating pathologies that affect almost the entire population; Likewise, it works to improve the quality of life if you suffer from a chronic illness and, in CDMX, free services are offered by the local Secretariat.
On the occasion of World Pain Relief Day, Publimetro contacted Adalberto Orozco, doctor director of the Specialized Center for Integrative Medicine (CEMI), who elaborated on the benefits that these medical specialties attract to the population.

To legitimize his explanation and avoid charlatanism, Dr. Orozco recalled that in order to provide this type of services, CEMI employees are professionals, graduated from a medical degree and have taken a specialty in acupuncture or phytotherapy at a prestigious university in Mexico. (UNAM, IPN or UAM). Among the services it promotes are:
1.- Acupuncture. Regulates pain through needle insertion. It can treat some pathologies whose main manifestation is pain, such as muscle contractures, facial paralysis or low back pain.
2.- Massage therapy. It affects pain through relaxation through massages and this effect is enhanced with infrared lamps and lasers. If they need more help, they are referred to acupuncture.
3.- Clinical phytotherapy. It is a medical specialty that regulates the neuroendocrine system through products of plant origin. That is, pathologies unbalance the pathophysiological system and the pain worsens. And this specialty regulates said system.
4.- Homeopathy. This specialty regulates the body through herbal methods with the plant in mother tincture, but taken to such a degree that what is used is the “energy of the plant” to correct the expression of pain. The energy of the plant is the purest extract of its active substance.
And of the pathologies that it helps to treat are: diabetes, hypertension, urinary tract problems, respiratory problems, heart disease, kidney stones, migraine, stress or sleep problems. These treatments do not interfere with allopathic treatment and have been shown to improve the patient’s quality of life.
