The world of medicine is constantly evolving: following the arrival of technologies working with artificial intelligence, drones will allow the transport of samples for analysis between two hospitals in Ontario.

This was announced by Drone Delivery Canada (DDC) in a press release issued Thursday. Thus, the project established for six months provides for 26 flights between the Milton District Hospital and the Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in Oakville.

“The potential for using drones to transport medical supplies in healthcare is significant. This innovative project explores ways to better meet the healthcare needs of our patients, families and communities,” said Hilary Rodriguez, Senior Vice President of Corporate Services, Performance and CFO of Halton Healthcare – l organization managing the two establishments.

Via a drone, the two hospitals will be able to exchange various essential medical supplies, such as blood and serum chemistry tests, blood bank equipment, urine cultures, small cytology containers containing formalin as well as blood culture bottles, DDC reported.

“We are proud to once once more partner with Halton Healthcare to continue to make inroads in the healthcare segment and demonstrate the benefits of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (“RPAS”) and their ability to benefit the healthcare market. health as a whole with positive results for patient care,” explained DDC CEO Steve Magirias.

Note that the agreement between DDC and Halton Healthcare comes a little more than three months following the federal government modified the regulations on drone safety in Canada.

“The proposed changes would benefit Canadians because drones might be used for many activities, including delivering packages to remote communities, emergency relief operations, natural resource inventories and wildlife surveys,” indicated the Ministry of Transport in a press release issued last June.

“Drones represent an opportunity to improve the efficiency and reach of our transportation system, connect our communities and modernize our supply chain networks,” added the Minister of Transport at the time, Omar Alghabra. .
