Benjamin Ajibade is taking a break to come back in top shape.
In recent years, Benjamin Ajibade has been the lifeblood of St. Johanner’s offensive game. The fast attacker scored goals on the assembly line and thus played a major role in the Pongau team’s success. In the Regionalliga West this season things are not going as planned for the 28-year-old. Due to inflammation in his right knee, he was never able to get up to speed recently and only managed to score one goal this season.
“I tore the cruciate ligament in my right knee years ago and I’ve had problems ever since,” explains Ajibade, who decided last week following a conversation with coach Ernst Lottermoser to take a break for the next few weeks. The veteran was already missing from the squad in the 3-1 defeat at the Altach Amateurs on Friday. “But that doesn’t mean that Benji isn’t doing anything. He actually did more than the team last week. He’s doing everything to ensure that he comes back at full strength,” emphasizes Lottermoser.
It is unlikely that Ajibade will return to the field for the remaining four autumn games, but the thoroughbred striker wants to attack once more in the spring. “Apart from the inflammation in my knee, I’m in great shape. I’m convinced that I’ll find my old strength once more.”
After the defeat in Vorarlberg, St. Johann still finds itself in the bottom of the Westliga table, but according to Ajibade, the club does not have to prepare for a tough relegation battle. “We’ve already shown this season that we can beat higher-rated opponents. St. Johann will still get enough points to get out of the bottom. I’m absolutely not worried regarding staying in the league.”
