Nouvelle-Aquitaine is the second largest thermal region in France and in first place in terms of private thermal businesses and number of establishments. This sector generates 25,000 direct and indirect jobs and a turnover of 130 million euros (or 16% of national turnover).
Created in 2009, Aqui O Thermes brings together 12 of the 15 thermal spas in the region as well as professionals in hydrotherapy, health, tourism, training and research to bring its expertise to medicalized thermal treatment with the main priority innovation.
“Our role is to bring together all establishments, communities, tourist offices, research stakeholders and training organizations to raise awareness of the sector, support training and innovate”summarizes Laurence Delpy, director of Aqui O Thermes, created in 2009.
With an increase of more than 30% in the level of attendance in 2022 compared to 2021, Aqui O Thermes draws a positive assessment of the thermal season. A dynamic which is confirmed once more this year (+20% attendance), thus strengthening the leading position of New Aquitaine in France in terms of innovation.
The new 2023-2028 regional thermal plan, signed in March 2023, aims to make the region a pioneering territory in the sector. It focuses on five areas: strengthening the network of spas and their brand image (modernization and promotion), modernization of structures, such as the Salies-de-Béarn project, ecological and energy transition, training and research and innovation.
