New episode of our consumer test series. As a reminder, every week we test products on sale in the five supermarket chains (Delhaize, Colruyt, Aldi, Lidl and Carrefour) by comparing the major brands to “white products” or distributor brands. The final score for each product is out of 20 points: 2.5 points for the appearance of the packaging, the appearance of the product, the nutritional value and the readability of the label, and 5 points for the taste and the quality-ratio. price. This week, given the return of autumn, we went into raclette mode. We already tested it a year ago, let’s see if there has been any change.
The brand test: which raclette cheeses melt us the most? (COMPARATIVE)
Appearance of the packaging: same reference as last year: Entremont. Like last year, this brand remains the benchmark with successful and desirable packaging. For Intermarché, the rating is good because it looks a lot like the big brand, even if it is a little less successful. Lidl has changed its packaging and it is much more successful than last year. For the rest, no change. Aldi is still as old-fashioned and Colruyt is as simple as ever.
Appearance of the product: it was quite correct overall, even if we regretted discovering a cheese that was too white and too odorless in several cases (Lidl, Aldi, Entremont). For Delhaize and Intermarché, however, it was very tempting once out of the raclette machine. For Colruyt, it was OK, but we were looking for the crust. Finally, the smell was not at all pleasant for the Carrefour product.
Nutritional value: Nutri-Score D for everyone, no surprise.
The big brand test on four-cheese pizza: the big brand shaken up by the competition, two references above the rest (COMPARATIVE)
Label readability: everyone has work to do, even those who are not failing. It was written way too small in general. Delhaize, Carrefour and Entremont are clearly lagging behind.
Taste: four failures for seven products, it’s rare! However, this is the case for this consumer product which is supposed to take part in wonderful evenings with family or friends. Like last year, Carrefour is at the back of the pack with a product with a very particular taste that tastes more like earth than cheese. Entremont and Carrefour are doing barely better, or less worse. The problem was that it really lacked taste. Aldi disappointed us compared to last year. Although the texture was pleasant, the taste was not strong enough. Lidl is doing a little better, but we cannot recommend it with our eyes closed either for the same reasons. Delhaize and Intermarché were therefore clearly above the rest. The texture and taste were there, we slightly preferred the Delhaize product for its good crispy crust.
Value for money: here is the price at checkout in order. In general, packages are sold by 400 g, except Entremont which only offers 250 g for… €7.65! For the rest: Carrefour (€4.29), Delhaize (€4.09), Aldi (€3.99), Colruyt and Intermarché (€3.89) and Lidl (€3.69).
