He was 91 years old, with the air of a druid, of a wizard, with a white beard almost always, of Professor Nimbus, of a man of the woods, of a post-hippie, a strong and shiny skull, of a contemporary Albus Dumbledore: Hubert Reeves, who died on Friday, embodied physically the absolute scientist, as we like him, between banter and equations. He was deeply in love with the universe, driven to make us understand it a little, so that one day we would know how to love it as much as he did. He was the grandfather of us all, Reeves, the one who knows the things we no longer know, the moss at the foot of a tree, the trace of a star, the Moon and then the peat.
