Effective Management and Recommendations for Atopic Dermatitis: Insights from Doctors and Patients

Doctors and patients shared important recommendations for proper management of this chronic condition.

The Medicine Magazine and Health Public, in alliance with the Living with Support Group Atopic Dermatitis of Puerto Rico, successfully led the great educational meeting onAtopic Dermatitis: Defeat the condition and embrace one fur healthy’ in the Theater of the Mayor’s House of Aguadilla.

The event was moderated by Ketsy Román, patient with atopic dermatitis and creator of the Support Group that provides guidance and empowers patients who face the challenges of living with the condition every day.

Likewise, they participated patients and doctors who are experts in the management of allergies and different conditions of the fur, who shared their life experiences; care they have learned and recommendations to effectively control the atopic dermatitis.

“The atopic dermatitis It is a condition we must learn to live with. My advice is to seek professional help from experts. If you suffer from this condition and see any strange symptoms, go to the doctor. Do not live with complexes or sorrow for suffering from it. This condition can be controlled,” said Michelle López, influencer and patient with atopic dermatitis.

For his part, Dr. Wilfredo Cosme, specialist in allergies and immunology, guided the patients regarding the role of allergies in the atopic dermatitis. Likewise, it resolved doubts of the participants regarding the treatments that exist to take care of the fur.

“One of the most frequent myths is hearing that the atopic dermatitis is caused by allergies and it is not like that, it is due to a defect in the fur. Although patients con atopic dermatitis yes they are more at risk of developing allergies to foods, allergic rhinitis, asthma, allergic conjunctivitis and eosinophilic esophagitis,” he explained.

Living with atopic dermatitis

Kimberly Maldonado also shared her experience of being diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. Her baby suffers atopic dermatitis since he was a newborn and that has meant a great challenge for him because he must keep track of both conditions.

“The biggest challenge has been being able to control him. Normally, when it’s very hot I find it difficult because he is uncomfortable and I’m not supposed to bathe him for a long time, but I was constantly giving him baths because he was sweating a lot.”

Dr. Wilfredo Cosme also recognized that the majority of patients con atopic dermatitis They tend to control their condition with good skin care. fur which includes: home care, healthy eating and pharmacological treatment.

“Fortunately with new medications we can make a life change in the patients con atopic dermatitis, but it is important to seek proper care. The primary physician has an important role in referring patients in a timely manner. patients to the dermatologist,” he said.
