20-year-old Upper Austrian had 600,000 euros in counterfeit money

In June 2023, the criminal investigation department of the Urfahr-Environment district police command was informed by Austrian customs that a suspicious postal item had been seized. In one package, 307 counterfeit banknotes of 20 euros each – with a face value of 6,140 euros – were found, and banknote counterfeiting was suspected. The seized cash was checked by the Federal Criminal Police Office and it turned out that it was undoubtedly counterfeit money. After extensive investigations, the recipient, a 20-year-old man from the Urfahr-Raum district, was identified.

On June 17, 2023, the criminal investigators from the BPK Urfahr-Raum, with the support of officers from the PI Ottensheim and Puchenau, as well as an IT investigator, carried out the ordered search.

More than 600,000 euros in counterfeit money

In total, the detectives were able to seize counterfeit banknotes with a face value of 365,970 euros.

The banknotes were submitted to an investigation by the Austrian National Bank, which revealed that all of the cash was counterfeit money. Furthermore, during the house search, several electronic data processing devices and utensils for forging credit and ATM cards were seized.
