Met on the sidelines of B2B meetings which took place on October 10 and 11 at the Cepex headquarters, the president of the Ftth, Haithem Bouajila, returned to the future issues which await one of the key industries for the Tunisian economy.

Focusing on the Premium product makes it possible to increase the added value of the textile and clothing sector. This is why the federation does not skimp on efforts to put this industry on the path to excellence. This is, in any case, what Bouajila explained, who believes that this is the best way to put the Tunisian textile industry on a pedestal at a time when the clothing market is characterized by strong competition. “A premium product stands out compared to an entry price product or an average product, by its significant added value, the quality of its components, but also that of the production and manufacturing process. So a premium product requires high-quality raw materials, which are also certified, highly developed and elaborate industrial processes, but also extremely important know-how and very advanced technology,” explained Bouajila.

The president of the Ftth also added: “Tunisia is a demographically small country, but because of its heritage and its know-how, it is big. So, we are banking on our heritage of more than 50 years to conquer the premium markets which will allow us to have more profit, added value, jobs created and above all more sustainability in business. That’s the premium, we are not going to start competing with countries where there are hundreds of millions of inhabitants, hundreds of millions of workers in the textile and clothing sector, and who work in mass markets where there is generally strong competition on prices. Our strategy as a federation which drives the Tunisian textile and clothing industry is to rely on our know-how, our assets to conquer and establish ourselves sustainably in premium markets and customers.

Eco-responsibility as a vector of growth

Asked regarding the challenges of ecological transition in this sector known to be one of the most polluting activities, the president of the Ftth specified that eco-responsibility should not only be a necessity, but rather a conviction which is part of the values adopted by professionals. “The strategy of the Tunisian textile and clothing federation includes this ecological and environmental parameter. This allows us not only to preserve our natural resources and the environment in which we live but also to distinguish ourselves on the markets,” he explained.

According to Bouajila, eco-responsibility can result in various actions, such as reducing the quantities of water used in the production of clothing thanks in particular to processes for recycling the water used in the production process, investment in facilities photovoltaic or wind turbines which produce clean energy or even the use of recycled and eco-responsible raw materials.

He affirmed that Tunisian companies are adhering to this concept, because they are aware, not only of their environmental responsibility but also of the importance of this approach as a guarantee of sustainability in target markets.

“Tunisia today has players who are best in class in terms of eco-responsible processes. Indeed, we have excellent water recycling and renewable energy facilities. Many processes implemented by manufacturers have enabled them to considerably reduce their consumption of energy and especially water. Moreover, one of the key performance indicators of our sector is the ability of units to continually reduce their water and energy consumption for each garment produced,” he concluded.
