Since 2009, Assista Social Services has been running the “Synapse” facility in Gallspach for people with acquired brain injuries. People are cared for there following strokes, cerebral hemorrhages and serious head injuries. An interdisciplinary team prepares them to return to a life that is as independent as possible.
From next year, this offer will be supplemented by “assisted living”, also in the town center and in the immediate vicinity of “Synapse”. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new building with three floors, six garçonnières and common rooms took place on Thursday. The construction period is around a year and the apartments should be ready for occupancy at the end of 2024. The project is being implemented with the support of the state of Upper Austria and the European Union.
Promote self-determination
“We are pleased that we will be able to offer an expanded range of services for people with acquired brain injuries in the immediate vicinity of our Synapse in Gallspach in order to be able to cover at least part of the needs that exist in Upper Austria,” says Assista managing director Hermann Wiesinger.
Co-managing director Markus Lasinger adds that assisted living promotes the personal responsibility and self-determination of people with disabilities.
Due to the proximity to the existing facility, synergies can be used in therapies and everyday support. Residents have their own area and can use common areas such as the kitchen or lounge.
State Councilor for Social Affairs Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer emphasized that we are consciously focusing on innovative ways of caring for people with disabilities in order to improve the quality of life and promote a life that is as self-determined as possible.
