Over the past several decades, humans have evolved in terms of knowledge. more scientific and medical leading to antibiotics better hygiene and including improved disease treatment processes (Especially the evolution of treatment for coronary artery disease and heart disease) has resulted in humans living longer and longer. And having a long life In addition to having anti-aging medicine There has even begun to be some evolution in anti-aging medicine.
Time magazine has compiled a look back at historical events. Going back approximately 98 years ago, the year 1925 (1925) was a turning point in the health of the United States. which includes the acquisition process Clean water, wastewater disposal To reduce the epidemic in the United States[1]
At that time, the life expectancy of an American was 59 years.[1] As for Thailand, there was a statistical survey in 1937 (1937) that Thai people had a life expectancy of only 40.3 years, which is considered a very short life expectancy for Thai people.[2]
Later, another 30 years later, around the year 1955 (B.E. 2498), humanity had to thank the era of evolution. “Multiple vaccines” including smallpox (smallpox) vaccine, diphtheria vaccine, polio vaccine, etc., are vaccines produced to reduce the occurrence of easily spread epidemics. and caused many deaths. including virus management It has made humans have a longer lifespan.[1]
At that time, life expectancy around the world increased to 50.1 years, with Americans having a life expectancy of 60.3 years and Thais having a life expectancy of 47.1 years.[2]
Over the next 30 years, in 1985, the threat of epidemics decreased around the world. Public health in the United States has launched a campaign on heart disease. Especially reducing the danger of heart disease from cigarettes. During that time, medicine and treatment procedures for heart disease have developed more.[1]
At that time, life expectancy around the world increased to 62.2 years, with Americans living at 69.2 years and Thais living at 67.6 years.[2]
Another 30 years later, in the year 2015 (2015), there has been the development of medicines to treat many diseases. Including the development of analytical tools for disease diagnosis or screening or prevention that are more modern and faster. Surgery progresses Including the evolution of other treatments Resulting in reducing the death rate in some types of cancer. This includes treating other illnesses as well.
At that time, Thai people’s life expectancy was approximately 77.7 years. Worldwide, life expectancy had increased to 71.8 years, and Americans’ life expectancy was 76.3 years.[2]
In the year 2019 (2019), which is the year the COVID-19 disease began. At the end of the year before the global outbreak spread, it was found that Thai people’s life expectancy was approximately 79 years. People around the world had a life expectancy that had increased to 72.8 years, and Americans’ life expectancy was 76.7 years.[2]
In summary, in the 64 years between 1955-2019 (1955-2015) Thai people lived 31.9 years longer. People around the world lived 22.7 years longer, while Americans lived 16.4 years longer.
for Thailand In addition to the public health system that has developed rapidly in many dimensions. along with the ability of doctors in Thailand and the treatment of diseases in Thailand that are as developed as those internationally. also comes from many legal measures and campaigns to “Reducing smoking in Thailand” has continued to decrease as well.[3]
In the year 2019 (2019), it was found that the worldwide death rate due to smoking was 13.0 percent, with Americans having the highest death rate due to cigarettes. The proportion is 17.5 percent, while the proportion of Thai people who die due to cigarettes has continuously decreased until 2019, the proportion is 11.8 percent.[3]
In the year 2000, adults who smoked in the world accounted for 34.2 percent. In the United States, smoking accounted for 33.8 percent. In Thailand, smoking accounted for 31.7 percent. But 20 years have passed in the year 2000. 2020, the world’s adult smokers decreased to 23 percent. The United States smoked cigarettes to 23 percent, while Thailand smoked to 22.1 percent.[3]
In addition, if we go back to 2015, Time magazine had an interesting headline on its cover: This child will live to be 142 years old. It refers to a drug called Rapamycin, which has been used as an antibiotic in laboratory animals. Then it was found that there was a mechanism to inhibit the activity of the gene called mTOR, resulting in growth inhibition.
Rappamycin It is an antibiotic prepared to be used to treat fungal infections. Later, it was found that it had the effect of suppressing the immune system. So it was used to treat kidney transplant patients. To prevent the immune system from rejecting the transplanted tissue.
It was later discovered that this drug inhibited the growth of cancer. Therefore, it is used to treat cancer. Subsequent research has produced more and more evidence. that rapamycin helps lab rats live longer
Rappamycin acts on its target. This is a protein inside the cell called mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin). The drug rapamycin blocks the activity of a gene called mTOR, reducing the incidence of cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkin’s. San, myocardial disease Type 2 diabetes, bone disease which results in inhibited growth or division It’s like a fasting period.
As for the progress of rapamycin, It has begun to enter the research process with humans compared to placebo since 2020 and it is expected that the research will be complete around December 2023.[4]
For the innovations of Thai people that the world is watching are red gemstone molecule Or the English name is RED-GEMs.[5]-[7]
Red gemstone molecules or RED-GEMs, an abbreviation for REjuvenating DNA by GEnomic Stability Molecules, are the result of further discoveries. “The upstream mechanism of aging” is the youth-DNA-gap area where DNA methylation occurs and is the source of the red gemstone molecule.[5]-[7]
By this research Research team from Chulalongkorn University Collaborated in research with PTT Company. Co., Ltd. and Innobic (Asia) Co., Ltd.[5]
The progress made in animal models of the red gemstone molecule has been interesting: old diabetic rats became stronger and more energetic; newborn pigs weighing 100 kilograms became softer in texture. Firmer, macaques: Tested with 3 injections over a period of 3 weeks, macaques are now safe. Mice with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, and pulmonary fibrosis: Research results not yet determined.[5]-[7]
By “If compared with the age of humans It will be like reducing old cells from 70 years old to 25 years old.” [5]
The next step will be to prepare for clinical testing of red gemstones in humans. Studies are expected to begin in 2023, with the remainder dependent on human trial results. Safety of red gemstone injections in humans It is hoped that it will be produced and released as early as 2024.[5]
The Economist magazine, September 30-October 6, 2023 issue, once once more featured on the cover the trend of people living up to 120 years due to the evolution of both consumer knowledge and the evolution of medicine. Going back to a more advanced age[8]
The important question that follows is: How many people will have to have a lot of money? And there is enough potential to buy medicine that can reverse aging.
But even though there may not be a cure to reverse aging for all elderly citizens, But the Thai population, which retires at age 60, has a longer life expectancy. This has caused the average lifespan of being “good” to be extended further as well.
Thai males have an average of approximately 68 years of good health, with an average life expectancy of approximately 72.2 years. This means that when an elderly Thai male retirees aged 60 years, he or she will be unemployed for up to 12 years, divided into being unemployed following a healthy retirement. 8 years before his health worsened, another 4 years before his death.
While Thai women have an average of regarding 74 years of good health, the average life expectancy is regarding 78.9 years. This means that when an elderly Thai woman retires at the age of 60, she will be unemployed for up to 18 years, divided into being unemployed following retirement. He was in good health for 14 years before being in bad health for another 5 years before he died.[9]
The question is, is it really appropriate for a Thai man who has been unemployed following 12 years of retirement despite having 8 years of good health or a Thai woman who has been unemployed following 18 years of retirement despite having good health for 14 years?
Maybe we need to start thinking regarding planning to care for the elderly more than just preparing a debt budget to provide welfare for the elderly alone?
From the facts in 2021, it was found that approximately 1 in 3 elderly people aged 60 years and over are still working, with more than 78.3 percent of elderly people having an income of less than 100,000 baht per year and 1 in 3 elderly people being People with low incomes below the poverty line In addition, people with savings less than 50,000 baht and working age people are burdened with increased expenses for caring for the elderly. [9]
Therefore, Thai elderly Should I not be unemployed and be employed for a longer time?
Should Thai seniors have a longer and more excellent period of health? Especially problems from alcohol, cigarettes and sugar, lack of exercise. Should it be a national agenda?
Should Thai elderly people rely more on themselves in their families? Should have knowledge in using home herbs. Organic food in the family And there should be indicators and incentives that rely less on hospitals. Less reliance on foreign medicine or not?
Thailand should start thinking and enacting measures to compete for potential population. and skilled workers entering Thailand from today or not?
With best wishes
