French public school teacher killed in knife attack The attack took place at a high school in the northern city of Arras. Two people were seriously injured in the attack. The assailant has been taken into custody.
The attack took place around 11:00 local time at the ‘Gambetta’ high school in the northern city of Arras. Eyewitnesses say that the assailant launched the attack by shouting “Allahu Akbar”. A French language teacher was killed. Another teacher and a security guard were injured in the attack.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the attacker had been caught. A 20-year-old Chechen man was arrested. French media reports that he is a former student at the school. News channel BFMTV reported that the police also arrested the brother of the attacker.
The French anti-terror prosecutor’s office said it had launched an investigation into whether terrorist organizations were behind the attack. The attack comes as tensions between France’s Muslim and Jewish communities worsen amid tensions between Israel and Hamas.
