ISLAND LIFE: Stone Island has arrived in the British Isles with a capsule collection for Dover Street Market in London. The all-black collection, Stone Island x Dover Street Market, is co-branded and the clothing is meant for cold weather — when it finally arrives.
There are garment-dyed coat silhouettes made from David-TC Down, a special fabric developed by Stone Island’s in-house team, and a long parka with a detachable hood and a stand-up collar.
The collection also includes overshirts made from brushed organic cotton canvas; lambswool knits including a crewneck and a hooded cardigan, and cargo trousers made from cotton gabardine.
The collection launched at Dover Street Market to coincide with Frieze London, where Stone Island is an official partner. The capsule is housed in a special installation on the ground floor and features an army of statues dressed in black.
The collaboration signals the beginning of Stone Island’s relationship with Dover Street Market, which marks its 20th anniversary next year.
On Thursday, Stone Island chief executive officer Robert Triefus and Dickon Bowden, vice president at Dover Street Market, cohosted a lunch at Rose Bakery on the store’s top floor, with guests including Moncler chairman and CEO Remo Ruffini.
Moncler took full control of Stone Island in 2021, and at the time Ruffini said that the goal with the menswear brand was to redefine luxury, “far from the traditional stereotypes.”
The capsule collection won’t be limited to London. It will launch at Dover Street Market Ginza in Tokyo on Saturday alongside an installation of archival Pure Metal Shell jackets. They will be on display in the store’s Elephant Space.
The installation commemorates Hannibal’s Alps crossing in 218 B.C. It features 19 Pure Metal Shell pieces from the fall 1999 collection. One has been made in bronze, while the others have been done in stainless steel, true suits of armor in the battle once morest the elements.
