The “youth” vote is closely scrutinized by political parties. A good representation in this category of voters gives some assurance for the future, even if the latest elections have shown that voters are adopting increasingly volatile behavior, ready to change parties.
According to the La Libre-RTBF-Kantar survey this October, it is Vlaams Belang which is best represented among those aged 34 and under (under 35) in Flanders and the PS, on the French-speaking side. The Socialists obtained 34.5% of the voting intentions of young people in Wallonia, more than their general score (27.2%). They do even better among first-time voters (18-24 years), but the data concerning this subcategory must be taken with caution in the survey due to the small size of the sample.
The strong MR among the oldest
The score of the PTB (21.6%) and Écolo (18.9%) among young Walloons is also better than their overall voting intentions, unlike the MR, Engagés and Défi. The Liberals are best represented among voters aged 50 and over (30%).
The main trends are quite similar in the Brussels Region, with some significant variations. The MR performs even less well among young people (7.2%), but even better among older voters (32.2%). And this time it is the environmentalists who are the most popular among young people: 19.6% for Écolo and 9.1% for their Dutch-speaking colleagues from Groen, results significantly better than their overall score.

Groen also obtains good results among young people in Flanders (13.8%), as does the PTB/PVDA (12.2%). But it is therefore Vlaams Belang which occupies first position in this age category (21.9%), although doing a little worse than its general score (23.3%).
Notable fact for the far-right party: it is well represented in each of the age categories (under 35 years, 35-54 years, and over 55 years), reaching or exceeding 20% each time. As for Vooruit, it is remarkably consistent, hovering around 16% in each category, while the other parties sometimes experience very significant variations.
