Two hospitals in Medellín, in addition to the medical community in general, are in mourning following the death of one of the most prestigious surgeons in the city and who is recognized for saving the lives of dozens of people. This is Fred Alexander Naranjo Aristizábal, 44 years old, who died in the middle of a traffic accident that occurred in the San Germán neighborhood, in commune 7 (Robledo).

This doctor, who was wearing the robe of the Bolivarian University Clinic at the time of the accident, was heading towards that healthcare center in the northwest of Medellín to carry out his duties, but at around 10:25 am on Wednesday his car, which had taken 65th Street from 80th Street, continued straight at the separator at the Colegio Mayor de Antioquia and which divides the route that leads to the San Germán or Pilarica neighborhood.

The accident, which seemed not to be so serious and which left some minor damage to the body of the vehicle, ended up being more fatal than expected. When the first people went to attend to him to verify the driver’s health, they found that this person had no vital signs.

The agents of the Judicial Police of the Medellín Mobility Secretariat carried out the corresponding judicial inspection. According to reports, doctor Naranjo had no blows to his head and the force of the collision once morest the pole was not strong enough for the airbags in the front of the car to activate.

His body was taken to Forensic Medicine so that forensic doctors might determine the causes of his death. The first hypotheses would indicate that he suffered cardiorespiratory failure while he was behind the wheel of his vehicle.

Admired professional

This doctor had important recognition both at the Bolivariana Clinic, where he worked in the mornings, and at the Pablo Tobón Uribe Hospital, where he worked mainly in the followingnoons.

“Dr. Fred Alexander served with commitment and vocation as a general surgeon in our clinic, standing out as a kind, smiling, empathetic person, impacting the quality of life of all collaborators and patients,” they noted from the Bolivariana Clinic, where he worked for more than 10 years.

For example, Miguel Grisales, through this medium’s Instagram account, highlighted: “The best doctor! Except my mom. May God bless him in his eternal rest.” And in that sense were the 220 messages that the publication on this social network had regarding the death of this health professional.

His academic career was at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB), where he first graduated in medicine and later specialized in general surgery.

But the life of this doctor went beyond the operating rooms, since he is remembered for being a very studious person, so much so that he already had several investigations carried out.

He carried out outstanding research work in the management of patients with esophageal varices at the Pablo Tobón Uribe Hospital and the comparison of a 7 or 10 day regimen in the management of pylori infection, which he carried out in this same healthcare center and which was published in the Colombian journal of gastroenterology.

He also dedicated part of his life to sharing his knowledge with UPB medical students, although he was not currently teaching.
