FC Bayern Identifies Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel as Top Goalkeeper Target

As part of the search for a long-term successor for Manuel Neuer, FC Bayern has probably found what they are looking for at Borussia Dortmund, of all places. BVB keeper Gregor Kobel is said to have taken a shine to the German record champions. But the Swiss would by no means be cheap.

As “footmercato.com” reports, FC Bayern has identified Kobel as their “main target” for the goalkeeper position.

The Munich team expect their top dog Manuel Neuer to return following the international break. The 2014 world champion suffered a serious lower leg injury last December.

However, Neuer is already 37 years old. In addition, the veteran’s contract expires in the summer. It is uncertain whether the ex-world goalkeeper will get back to his old level.

FC Bayern in contact with the player side?

Either way, FC Bayern has to plan what to do next following the Neuer era. If you believe “footmercato.com”, the German series champion is hot for Dortmund’s Kobel. Contact with the players’ side is said to have already been made.

However, according to information from the French portal, BVB might demand between 70 and 80 million euros for their goalkeeper. After all, the Black and Yellows recently extended the Swiss contract until 2028.

Watzke emphasizes Kobel’s “commitment to BVB”

“His signing of this long-term contract is a great commitment to BVB,” Dortmund club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke made clear in the club’s official statement.

“I’m a totally emotional guy, Dortmund is an incredibly emotional football location and the Signal Iduna Park is an incredibly emotional stadium. I think we fit together really well,” said Kobel himself, happy regarding his signature.

These words do not sound like promising transfer opportunities for FC Bayern.
