Vaccination recommendation when traveling to a country with a measles epidemic
Infants aged 6 to 11 months: One dose of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, according to a compassionate prescription framework which replaces the RTU procedure, for children aged 6 to 8 months who must travel to an area of high endemicity, then 2 doses of MMR vaccine following the recommendations of the current vaccination schedule (1 dose at the age of 12 months, then one dose between 16 and 18 months).
Children from 12 months: A 1st dose of MMR vaccine at the age of 12 months and a 2nd dose between 16 and 18 months; this 2nd dose can be administered more quickly in the event of travel, respecting a minimum period of one month between the 2 doses.
People born following 1980 and aged over 12 months: Two doses in total of MMR vaccine regardless of immunization history for rubella and mumps and regardless of history for the three diseases. People previously vaccinated with 2 doses and whose first dose was administered before the age of 12 months must receive a 3rd dose.
People born before 1980: In the context of traveling to an endemic country, it is recommended that people not protected once morest measles (without a known history of measles or not previously vaccinated) receive a dose of MMR vaccine before departure.
