Corruption Scandal: Directors of Local Hospital in Puerto Libertador Charged with Diverting 7,000 Million Pesos

The Attorney General’s Office charged seven directors and former officials of the Local Hospital of Puerto Libertador, located in Córdoba, for the alleged diversion and appropriation of 7,000 million pesos.

“The Attorney General’s Office presented seven directors and former officials of the Divino Niño Emergency Medical Care Centers (CAMU), currently known as the Local Hospital of Puerto Libertador (Córdoba), before a guarantee control judge, accused of diverting illegal public resources intended for the care of the population”states the entity in a statement.

The alleged criminal acts took place, according to the Prosecutor’s Officein between 2012 y 2016. Apparently, these people took advantage of their position and functions to write 173 checks from a master account of the care center to third parties who had no employment relationship or contractual ties with the center. “In this way and without any legitimate support to support the movement of money, apparently, they participated in the appropriation of 7,000 million pesos from the treasury,” said the accusing body.

The former managers of the CAMU Divino Niño of Puerto LibertadorViviana Cecilia Gómez, José Luis Salinas, Julio César Ramos, Gilma Núñez Villalba and Eder John Soto Cuadrado; the former assistant manager, Adnor Elías Narváez; and the former accounting assistantArelis María Bedoya Aleanwould be those allegedly involved in the illicit scheme.

The Prosecutor’s Officethrough prosecutor of the Specialized Directorate once morest Corruptioncharged these people with the crime of embezzlement by appropriation. The defendants did not accept the charge.
