Around 7:20 a.m., there were more than ten kilometers of traffic jams, which was equivalent to a 1h45 to 2-hour queue, with traffic only moving slowly.
The accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. at the end of the access ramp to Lokeren. This was a one-sided accident in which the truck driver lost control of the steering wheel and the truck ended up on its side on the shoulder. The guardrails were severely damaged and fuel leaked from the vehicle.
The driver, who was not seriously injured, was trapped in his cabin for some time and had to be extricated. A special crane was used for the helicopter hoisting.
Other disruptions elsewhere
As indicated by Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Center, whose comments are relayed by the Newspaper, chaos also reigns on other roads throughout Flanders, with a total of more than 240 kilometers of traffic jams. “These are exceptionally high values,” recognizes Peter Bruyninckx. This is explained by the “different incidents here and there”. “But it is above all a typical morning rush hour with rainy weather during the traffic jams in October. It is not pleasant and it is better to allow more time for your trips,” specifies the manager mobility.
