This is a big rock in the job market. Due to a lack of accommodation, many candidates make the decision to refuse certain positions, according to a study carried out by HelloWork, revealed by Europe 1. A choice with serious consequences, since companies might be forced to reduce their recruitment.
Will the real estate crisis lead to a disastrous employment crisis? In any case, this is what a study carried out by the platform specializing in recruitment HelloWork suggests and which reveals Europe 1, Thursday October 12. According to the latter, more and more candidates are giving up positions due to lack of available or accessible accommodation. An anomaly which would have the effect of inhibiting job mobility, forcing companies to limit the number of positions open to applications.
The number of job offers on the decline
Even though they check all the boxes on their CV to apply for a position, many candidates ultimately give up on filling it because they have not found accommodation. A situation which is increasingly worrying companies which have decided to adapt their recruitment in recent weeks. Thus, with 2.3 million offers posted on its platform in the third quarter, HelloWork recorded downward momentum on the job market. According to David Beaurepaire, the deputy director of the platform, “this freezing of the real estate market by rebound can have an impact on the job market because this less geographical and therefore professional mobility of candidates will limit the number of positions which will open up“.
In the absence of a lasting solution to meet the requirements of property owners, candidates for certain positions, and particularly young people, must therefore adapt. Consequently, a certain number of young workers who have arrived on the job market in cities under pressure in terms of real estate decide to use shared accommodation to find accommodation. Thanks to various platforms, they can apply for positions for which they would not necessarily have applied before, due to a file considered fragile by the owners of rental properties.
