printing time halved thanks to new settings

Users of an Ultimaker S-series 3D printer can double their printing speed if they switch to Cura 5.5. Ultimaker has released new profiles for this that are optimized for speed. In addition, the slicer ensures that other matters are also handled faster.

Ultimaker has managed to keep the percentage of successful prints high. Even at double speed, the success rate remains at 95% and higher.

A comparison for printing a gripper on the S7, the top model of the S series. While with the new software the print is ready following more than 12 hours, with the old settings the print is not yet half way done.

New Cura 5.5

The latest Cura 5.5. for the Ultimaker S printer features a range of optimized speed profiles, standardized for different line types and further refined when printing with different print profiles and UltiMaker materials, including PLA, Tough PLA, PETG and ABS. In addition, the material flow and nozzle pressure when switching between line types have been optimized. As a result, there is no loss of quality during transitions from one line type to another. Cura 5.5 also contains new infill patterns for internal structures that require less printing time. The number of erratic fill-in movements is decreasing; this makes the print head move more smoothly.

Shorter development cycles

Ultimaker says that this allows customers to both save printing time and, above all, shorten their time to market because models and prototypes are ready in half the time. Faster 3D printing means shorter development cycles. More than 280 print profiles are available for Ultimaker’s S series 3D printers on the Ultimaker Marketplace.
