The third beta of iOS 17 is already available. With it, Apple mainly brings fixes, but also and above all some new rather practical functions.

iOS 17 has only been out for a few weeks and Apple is already looking ahead to upcoming updates to the iPhone operating system. Slowly but surely, Apple is drawing up the outlines of what will be iOS 17.1, with its share of some new features still kept secret by the company.

This week, iPhones welcome the third beta of iOS 17.1. Apple deploying its updates every week and the final version being expected at the end of the month, this beta is, a priori, the penultimate or at least the antepenultimate. Here are the new features.

This is, in a way, the scandal that overshadowed the announcement of the iPhone 15 in France on September 12. A few hours before the keynote, the French government announced the complete cessation of the marketing of the iPhone 12 due to the quantity of waves emitted.

Apple then promised that the situation would be resolved with a simple update, capable of reducing the waves emitted by the device. With the third beta, Apple therefore closes a file which has lasted for a month, and which might have had some financial repercussions in France for Apple and certain resellers. From now on, the iPhone 12 no longer emits enough waves to be pinned down by the National Frequency Agency.

The Action button will no longer activate in your pocket

If the first feedback from the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max was particularly positive (see our test), some users nevertheless noted that the Action button had a tendency to be pressed unintentionally once in their pocket . Here once more, Apple has found an excellent solution.

Thanks to the proximity sensor, the iPhone 15 Pro detects when it is put in a pants pocket or bag. Thus, the Action button becomes unusable and warns the user of involuntary activation.

Create a list of favorite music

This was perhaps one of the important features that Apple Music lacked the most. Previously, when a user wanted to quickly listen to music they liked, they had to drag them into a playlist specially created for the occasion.

With this beta, Apple Music now allows you to mark a song as a favorite. A small star then appears to its left. A sorting tool also appears at the top right, allowing you, in particular, to only display your favorite songs. It is also important to note that this Favorite option replaces the I like this song option. Music for which you previously pressed the Like button switches to Favorite mode.

The coverage of playlists can finally be personalized in a more advanced way, similar to what Apple offers when the company creates playlists in its app.

AirDrop: continued transfer via mobile data

To transfer data via AirDrop, an iPhone will use Bluetooth and WiFi and detect nearby devices. If the transfer is very practical and quite fast, it is necessary to constantly remain in direct proximity to the other device so as not to interrupt it.

From now on, AirDrop will work with the 4G/5G network. When you are no longer close enough to the other device, the iPhone will automatically switch to mobile data and therefore allow the transfer to continue.
