It’s difficult to remain placid in front of the crazy interpretations, the pink cap and the devotion on stage of Marthe Laverdière.

The horticulturist with many other professions, “who does comedy shows in her spare time”, presented her very first solo show, Tuesday evening, at the Gésù, in front of some members of the artistic colony, but also, and above all, in front of the public who followed the progress of his career via his horticultural capsules.

The comedian from Bellechasse, in Chaudière-Appalaches, delivered for this first show – “which thank God is not called The seed to Marthe», she considered herself lucky – a good program full of anecdotes and effective slices of life, of which we sometimes perceive a little too much the mechanics behind, with which she easily managed to extract laughter from her audience.

Through her incredible stories, to say the least, in which she talks regarding seeds of all kinds, former clients, her children and her tender “kitty”, whom she met at the high school, she traces the thread of her own story, among other things regarding how she became a horticulturist late in life, when she, without knowing it and on a whim because she was completely cold, bought a greenhouse structure in an auction that was being held at the back of the row, in the middle of winter.

The audience’s favorite anecdote was certainly the last one from the show, where the 60-year-old comedian discussed her past as a therapeutic massage therapist, a course she initially took to learn how to deal with back pain. But it was during her exam, under the watchful eye of her teacher Martine, that she “hated to [s’]to confess”, that everything has gone wrong.

At the end of this issue, it’s difficult not to feel compassion for poor Rénald “who saw the tunnel and the light”, who lost a few feathers, who was massaged at Purell…

In this first solo show, Marthe Laverdière does not reinvent the wheel. His facial expressions and his frank speaking, his easy and predictable play on words, the double meanings which are never far away, and his colorful interpretations, even overexcited at times, easily had their effect on the spectators, who did not notice him. never let it go. Laughing loudly from start to finish, some spectators even gasped for breath several times.

The horticulturist also took a touching moment at the end of the show to talk regarding her granddaughter Jeanne, who suffers from atypical Rett syndrome, for whom she launched a foundation. Part of the proceeds from his show are donated to this foundation. This is also the case for the recipes in his books.

Soberly directed by Mario Jean, Marthe Laverdière puts on a show! will certainly appeal to a certain audience.
The comedian will be in Quebec, at the Salle Octave-Crémazie, on October 17 and 18.
