With these successes, Retton, who is only 1.45 m tall, triggered an artistic gymnastics boom in the USA.
After her sports career, Retton did not leave the spotlight. She starred in TV series like “Baywatch” or in films like “The Naked Cannon 33 ⅓”. She was inducted into the Artistic Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1997.
