Students, professors and graduates of the law degree at the National University of Comahue (UNCO) of Roca are holding a raffle to raise funds to travel to sixth Patagonian Criminal Litigation Competition. It is a competition where they recreate audiences, which enriches the students’ experience.
This year the UNCO Litigation Team (Lipeco) will participate in the meeting that will be held in Mendoza and that is why they launched a raffle to be able to cover the expenses involved in the activity. More than 30 universities will participate, including the National University of Rio Negro, National University of La Pampa, National University of the South and the National University of San Juan Bosco.
The contest will be held from October 30 to November 3.
What is the contest for?
The Lipeco students explained the importance of participating in the different instances that the meeting offers them.
«As a human group and future legal professionals, we find it important to highlight that They are not only academic instances, but also training meetings that teach us the new adversarial litigation system, that has been projected and put into practice throughout our country,” they noted.
Furthermore, the students explained that Neuquén and Rio Negro had reforms in the provincial Criminal Procedure Code very few years ago, “this means that the hearings are oral and public, they are no longer written, which makes Any person in the community who is interested in learning more regarding what is happening in a dispute can access these hearings.«.
In the contest The University Litigation Center chooses different cases and assigns them to each team of the participating universities to recreate hearings, both preliminaries and oral and public trials, from the role of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the defense party.
They hold a raffle
Since Lipeco is part of a public university, it does not have any funding. «Everything that is obtained to be able to attend this meeting is at our own expense and with donations that some people do,” they noted.
That is why they are carrying out a raffle which has a value of $1,000 and has three prizes totaling more than $200,000. Firstly, a Lenovo M10 Tablet is raffled off, secondly a Peabody Planetary Blender and finally a Liliana Mixer with its accessories.
The objective is to be able to finance the trip of 10 students (lodging and food). Among them are six litigants, two coaches and two students who will play the role of witnesses.
Finally, they highlighted that «We must not overlook the danger that public education is in today, which we must defend and keep high.. We are convinced that these training spaces are some of the many ways to do it.
