Investigation Launched by FIGC into Nicolo Fagioli’s Sports Bets

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) opened an investigation in August to determine whether Juventus Turin player Nicolo Fagioli made sports bets, it told AFP.

She thus confirms information from the Italian press on Wednesday.

Juve’s great hope, Fagioli, 21 years old and selected once for the Italian team, is suspected of having used several different profiles to make bets on clandestine platforms.

If the violation of article 24 of the FIGC sports justice code, which prohibits a professional player from betting on football, is proven, he is liable to a three-year suspension and a fine of 25 ‘000 euros.

Contacted by AFP, Juventus did not wish to comment.

Fagioli has made six appearances this season for Juve.

The most successful club in Italian football experienced a 2022-23 season polluted by extra-sporting affairs, in particular an accounting fraud scandal which earned it a deduction of seven points in the Italian championship standings.

The Piedmontese club, currently 3rd in the championship, is deprived of French international Paul Pogba, suspended since September 11 following having a positive doping test for testosterone, confirmed by the second opinion requested by the player.

Pogba, 30, faces a four-year suspension, which might be reduced to two years if non-intentionality is proven.
