Voices of Youth: Stories of Anxiety, Depression, and Hope in Today’s Society

2023-10-11 09:03:17

There are those for whom it started very young, the anxiety and the fear of not making it. Those who did not see the unrest coming, or those who did not dare to speak regarding it for fear of disturbing or simply for fear of not being heard.

And then there are those who get by with medication and those who aren’t there yet. Those who are afraid of the lack of future, of global warming…. of the nuclear bomb, or of failing to cope with college. And then there are those who think regarding death. Everyone tells their story in their own way, in their teenage bedrooms, in a special psychiatric unit for fragile adolescents, or in the depths of a soft sofa in the family living room. Aiyvi, for example, tells us regarding her depression: “I’ve been like this for a long time, since primary school and before coming here, I was already on antidepressants, it was my psychiatrist who sent me to the hospital. But the hospital is hugely saturated with young people, especially since covid, requests have increased by 40%. Youth is nonsense at the moment and since the wait in hospital was too long and I was an urgent case, I was sent to the psychiatric emergency rooms”.

In a story with several voices, in groups or separately, Aiyvi, Mélossa, Cléo, Gaspard, Acku, Agnia and Liv describe their vision of their own lives and the evolution of society. They talk regarding what they went through, and what they escaped.

A documentary of Johanna Bedeau directed by Marie-Laure Ciboulet.
