A serious road accident occurred Wednesday morning in Tournai (province of Hainaut) where a cyclist was hit by a truck. The victim was seriously injured and admitted to the ChWapi emergency department in Tournai, firefighters said.
The Picardy Wallonia emergency services were alerted on Wednesday morning, shortly before 6:40 a.m., that a traffic accident had occurred along the Chaussée de Renaix on the edge of the village of Mourcourt (Tournai) and Tournai. A cyclist who was traveling along the Provincial road towards Tournai was hit from behind by a forklift truck. The accident occurred between the company “Les Engrais Lebrun” and the container yard. Very seriously injured, the victim was stabilized by Smur emergency workers, then transferred to the emergency department of the ChWapi Union Center in Tournai. “The identity of the victim is not known. It is a young woman. An expert from the Tournai-Mons public prosecutor’s office must go to the scene of the accident,” indicated shortly before 10:00 a.m. Captain Grégory Petit who led the intervention. A diversion was set up by the police in the Tournaisis area who carried out a report of the facts.
