SV Ried: Daxl’s farewell speech was so emotional

2023-10-11 08:04:00

“SV Ried for a lifetime” – with these words Roland Daxl ended his speech at yesterday’s general meeting of SV Guntamatic Ried. For the first time in 14 years, the long-time manager is no longer part of the board of the second division soccer team. The 49-year-old will remain with the club as a sponsor and in an advisory role in the newly created sports and business forum.

After relegation from the Bundesliga, the man from Grieskirchen resigned as president of the Vikings and handed over the office to Thomas Gahleitner, who was officially elected by the members as the new head of the club yesterday. Especially with the move to the second highest division, calls from those around Ried for change on the top level of the club became loud – this wish was fulfilled.

“That’s why I’m leaving”

Daxl looks at the departure from the Ried board with a laughing and a crying eye: “I worked with a lot of passion and commitment for SV Ried and I really enjoyed it. The stronger the resistance, the more I reached my best . I’ve been able to do a lot of good things for our club, but unfortunately we’re currently playing in the wrong league. Just being top in terms of infrastructure and economics isn’t enough. That’s one of the reasons I’m leaving.”

In addition to the cup victory, he also counts the international appearances with his riders among his high points. In addition to the two relegations, he also mentions the difficult Corona period as low points: “It wasn’t always easy, especially in times of poor sporting performance. Unfortunately, in these moments you also have to deal with a lot of loud people whose opinions are very strong “But I don’t have a clue. They had to put up with my straightforward nature, but I always gave the maximum for the club.”

Above all, financially, he leaves the club on a solid foundation: In the previous season, the 10 million euro barrier was broken once more (10,811,000) in sales, and for the first time in its history, SV Ried has positive equity of two million euros. In the past season they also made a profit of 968,000 euros. “We are the Innviertel’s biggest medium. I’m also proud of what we’ve achieved in terms of numbers, but not that we’re playing in the wrong league.”

“There are more important things”

At the hour of his farewell, Daxl, who is known for his tough skin, also became very emotional when it came to telling his successor and friend Gahleitner regarding what might soon await him: “In the hour of farewell, I can tell you “This responsibility is also a backpack. A backpack that you have to carry and want to carry. Thick skin is necessary. It’s not nice when the family suddenly needs police protection,” said Daxl – and made a conscious gesture a look at the members of the Rieder fan scene who have come. “Football is the most beautiful thing in the world, but there are more important things.”

At the end of his speech, he still expressed one wish – also regarding himself: “What is important is what is said when someone leaves. When you talk regarding my time at SV Ried, it should be said: Daxl has a solid one The foundation was handed over and the new guys did great things with it. SV Ried for life.”
