Vienna (OTS) – “One international football match + the start of the autumn holidays in 6 German federal states + the end of the autumn holidays in 4 German federal states means traffic jams on the weekend” – according to ARBÖ, traffic events can be broken down into this formula. The transit routes in the west and the main transport connections in Vienna will be affected.
On October 13th, 2023, the Austrian national soccer team will compete once morest the selection from Belgium in the qualification for the 2024 European Championship. Kick-off in the match of the 7th round of Group F is at 8:45 p.m. The Ernst Happel Stadium as the venue is sold out with 48,500 spectators in the showdown once morest the league leaders led by captain Romelu Lukaku. Experience has shown that many visitors will arrive in their own vehicles. Together with the evening traffic, this will cause traffic jams on the southeast tangent (A23), probably between Hanssonkurve and Handelskai in the direction of Hirschstetten and between Hirschstetten and St. Marx in the south. Drivers also have to expect long delays before the Prater junction on the Ostautobahn (A4) and the Kaisermühlen junction. It might also take much longer at Handelskai, Ausstellungsstrasse, Engerthstrasse and Trabrennstrasse. Meiereistrasse between Vorgartenstrasse and Hauptallee as well as Stadionallee in its entirety and Trabrennstrasse between Vorgartenstrasse Parking Garage D at the exhibition center will probably be closed.
“In addition to the traffic jams on the route, finding a parking space might also be a test of nerves. In addition, the general short-term parking zone limits parking times to 2 hours until 10 p.m. The parking garages at the exhibition center and the Park+Ride facilities on the subway lines U1, U2, U3, U4 and U6 are available as parking alternatives. From our point of view, traveling with the Vienna lines, especially the U2 and the bus lines 77A, is recommended as much as possible,” said the ARBÖ transport experts.
Temporary: Change in vacationer perspective due to the end and start of vacation in Germany and the Netherlands
On Saturday and Sunday the traffic situation is characterized by the holiday shift change. Autumn holidays of up to 2 weeks begin in the German states of Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein. For the students from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony and Thuringia, the autumn holidays come to an end at the weekend. Especially on Saturdays, traffic jams and long delays are to be expected on transit routes, especially in the federal states of Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol.
In Carinthia, the most likely traffic jam points are the Karawanken tunnel on the Karawanken motorway (A11) and the construction site areas at the Spittal/Drau junction and between Gmünd and Rennweg.
In Salzburg, the construction site area between Golling andwerfen will almost certainly become a bottleneck with kilometre-long traffic jams and long delays. The ARBÖ traffic experts know that drivers will also have to plan significantly more time in this area and also on the alternative route – the Salzachtal Straße (B159) – on Sunday, especially in the direction of Salzburg.
Tyrol’s drivers are well advised to plan for long delays on the Brenner motorway (A13), the Fernpass route (B179) and the Inntal motorway (A12). The bottleneck on the A13 will be the construction site area between Nösslach and Matrei. But there will also be waiting times in front of the construction site near Schönberg on Saturday until the followingnoon. On the B179, two-way traffic is almost inevitable, in sections along the entire route, but especially between Nassereith and Lermoos and between the Vils/Füssen border tunnel and Reutte. Block handling in front of the Lermoosertunnel and the Vils/Füssen border tunnel is also likely. According to ARBÖ, there will probably be longer delays on the A12 in the greater Innsbruck area, in front of the construction site near Wörgl and in front of the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border.
“Our advice to drivers on Saturday is to avoid the routes mentioned and the Walserberg border crossing on the western motorway from the morning to the followingnoon if possible and to find out regarding the current traffic situation before setting off. We are available from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Austria-wide telephone number 050 123 123 or via email – id@arboe.at “We are also happy to provide suggestions for alternative routes,” concluded the ARBÖ traffic experts.
