Around twenty people had the shot for the fall vaccination Tuesday morning at the Paspébiac Cultural Center. And with COVID-19 starting to regain strength in the province, many people did not hesitate to roll up their sleeves to be immunized.
Health authorities expect to inoculate no fewer than 19,000 people across Gaspésie over the next six weeks.
Around fifteen vaccination clinics are already in operation in the Gaspé region.
“There will also be smaller centers in municipalities which will be deployed in order to cover the territory absolutely. (…) Home care will offer it to certain people who cannot really move around at home in the coming weeks,” says the spokesperson for the Integrated Health and Social Services Center of Gaspésie, Lou Landry.
The campaign began in CHLSDs and RPAs last week.
This year, it will be possible to be administered a vaccine once morest COVID-19, influenza and pneumococcal infections in a single visit.
“It’s easier, yes, and above all it’s easier for the population. We only travel once and we make only one appointment,” mentions the medical advisor at the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine Regional Public Health Department, Dr. Jean-François Lefebvre.
The smooth running of these clinics relies, among other things, on an experienced team of 90 people, including retired nurses who have returned to the floor since the pandemic.
“Here, in the establishment, they have been giving vaccinations for over a year, including shingles. So the nurses are trained, they bring their vaccines and their equipment and they are ready to welcome people,” explains clinical nurse Nancy Loisel.
Dr Lefebvre recalls the importance of protecting yourself once morest coronavirus and the flu.
“The message is really to say: the objective of these vaccines is to reduce the complications of COVID and influenza illnesses which can land us in the hospital, in intensive care or threaten life.”
The Gaspé vaccination campaign should in principle end at the end of November.
People who wish to be vaccinated must make an appointment by telephone or via the Clic Santé platform.
