The American Ben Shelton, 20th ATP player, qualified on Tuesday for the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Shanghai after his success against the 4th in the world, the Italian Janik Sinner 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 ( 7/5).
Sinner won the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing last Wednesday against Russian Daniil Medvedev, world No.3. This is the first time that the 21-year-old has managed to reach the quarter-finals in a tournament of this category.
He will face his compatriot Sebastian Korda who earlier beat Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 7-6 (8/6).
