The island of Gorée, which is home to one of the most prestigious schools in Senegal, is forced to postpone the start of the school year. In fact, at Mariama Ba, students will only start classes on Thursday, October 12. But the most surprising thing is that this postponement of the start of the school year in Gorée is due to a shortage of water.

Indeed, according to Le Témoin, the populations of Gorée are suffering from a severe shortage of the precious liquid. This pushed the authorities to reschedule the start of the school year at the Mariama Ba school of excellence to Thursday October 12, 2023.

“This is the second postponement of the start of the school year due to a lack of water on the Island of Gorée. The situation goes beyond the municipal authorities of Gorée. So the President of the Republic must come to the aid of the populations of Gorée and the Senegalese school”declared to the Witness Mrs. Ndiaye whose daughter is at the Mariama Ba school.
