RTBF Employees Take Indefinite Strike as Frustration Mounts Over Unfair Solutions and Lack of Talent Retention

RTBF staff in Liège stopped work on Tuesday to “show their indignation at the inability of RTBF to find fair and attractive solutions for its employees and its inability to keep its talents”. Given the lack of progress since the filing of an indefinite strike notice, it is not impossible that the movement will spread, indicated Tuesday Bernard Gabus, president of the Walloon Interregional (IRW) of the CGSP RTBF.

A strike picket is established opposite the Liège site of RTBF (Média Rives), on the Médiacité esplanade. Around sixty people are affected by this work stoppage. The union representative specifies that the impact on the broadcasting of public service programs is limited to the radio program Vivacité matin (6 a.m.-8 a.m.), which was replaced by Vivacité Namur, and the evening children’s television news “Les Niouzz », which will be replaced by a rebroadcast. “But we don’t block the people who work at the Cap 48 studio,” he emphasizes.

The CGSP has filed an indefinite strike notice for its Brussels and Walloon wings but today’s movement only concerns the Liège site. The union denounces in particular the human resources management policy, namely “a succession of fixed-term contracts, the use of temporary work or even the push to become independent”. “Contracts coming to an end are not replaced while operational management does everything to keep these people by circumventing things. General management says one thing while operational management says something else. We want a lasting solution,” specifies Bernard Gabus, who adds that the first contact with human resources, last Friday, was not a success.

“And the general administrator was content to give his position in writing without calling anything,” continues the unionist. A staff meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Given the electrical context, it is not excluded that the movement will spread.
