Several residents of Beauport and the surrounding area claim to have received visits from suspicious individuals who offer their services to carry out work at home in recent weeks. The police ask the population to remain vigilant.
The modus operandi is very simple: young people, “between 20 and 30 years old” according to the Beauport residents contacted by The newspaper, come to ring the doorbell. They claim to have been sent by a “specialized company” in attic insulation or maintenance of foundations or heat pumps to analyze the needs of residents in the neighborhood.

“Once they enter inside, they invent a reason to justify that emergency work must be done,” explains the spokesperson for the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ), David Poitras.
Potential fraudsters also sometimes “charge an exorbitant price” to carry out repairs. Other times they include being “paid immediately upon signing their contract.” Obviously, they don’t do any work.
“They are very insistent on entering the house,” testifies André Giguère, a resident of the Courville sector. I asked them for a business card, to prove to myself that their business exists. They claimed they didn’t have any on them. I slammed the door, they stayed on the balcony and I wish them to never set foot here once more! »
Twice a month
Further south, in Vieux-Beauport, Pascale Landes receives visits of this type twice a month.
” It happens often. They don’t look suspicious: they are young men who present themselves well and who arrive with a notebook and a pencil. […] I’m not interested in having discussions with them and I usually cut it short. If I haven’t used the services of a professional, I don’t expect them to come to my house,” she notes.
Other nearby residents confirmed that they were regularly visited by people offering these types of services. Some brought the situation to the attention of the SPVQ.
Sergeant Poitras maintains that this stratagem is widespread throughout the country and well known to the police. He asks those who are victims of these attempts to inform the authorities.
