Some Brazilian cities may soon receive services involving 5G connection. This is because Anatel is close to confirming the release of the 3.5 GHz spectrum for these municipalities, which total 432 and are spread across different states in the country, namely:
Paraná: 160 cities Rio Grande do Sul: 155 Santa Catarina: 71 Minas Gerais: 27 Amapá: 11 Roraima: 8
If the endorsement is confirmed, the benefiting municipalities should total 2,456, as the current number already totals 2,024. Therefore, the increase in quantity will mean that almost half of the locations will now receive support for connectivity with the new standard.
Regarding the locations that will have 5G released, 381 of them have a population of less than 30 thousand inhabitants. In addition, the list also includes 51 cities with populations between 30 and 100 thousand inhabitants, which had an original date for spectrum release in January 2026.
In any case, approval for the use of the band must be confirmed on the 18th, during a meeting of the Anatel group that oversees 3.5 GHz commitments, Gaispi. Within the high number of cities, it is possible to see that the locations in the South region are predominant.
Operators that hold this frequency will be able to request authorization to activate 5G in the aforementioned spectrum from October 23rd. Therefore, this might be good news for the use of the network that continues to grow in Brazil. Finally, see which cities have had connections recently released by the agency.
