L’Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Belgium, Léopold Tonguenoma Bonkoungou, presented his credentials to His Majesty Willem-Alexander, King of the Netherlands, on Wednesday September 13, 2023, in The Hague. His Majesty Willem-Alexander and Ambassador Bonkoungou had a tête-à-tête during which they exchanged and shared views on the security situation in Burkina Faso and the Sahel region, recent developments in political news in West Africa and the state of bilateral cooperation. Referring to the security challenges facing Burkina Faso, Ambassador Bonkoungou shared the efforts made by the Burkinabè authorities to, among other things, restore security, restore territorial integrity and provide adequate responses to the prevailing humanitarian crisis. in certain regions of Burkina Faso. He called for the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the implementation of the priority actions of the Transition.
Informed of the evolution of the security situation in Burkina Faso and the political dialogue maintained between Burkina Faso and ECOWAS, within the framework of the conduct of the Transition, His Majesty the King expressed his country’s attachment to strengthening of cooperative relations between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Burkina Faso.
On the sidelines of the ceremony at the royal palace of Noordeinde, the Ambassador of Burkina Faso held a program punctuated by courtesy visits and audiences.
Thus, he had three working sessions at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Ms. Martine Van Hoogstraten, Deputy Director of the Africa Department, Ms. Nathalie Olijslager, Director of Stability and Humanitarian Aid, and Mr. Joost Flamand, Director of Security Policies.
As part of the audience diary, the Ambassador took advantage of his stay to exchange views with Ambassadors stationed in The Hague. At the end of a 96-hour stay, he returned to Brussels.
