Health professionals believe that the increase in incivility is due to the increase in office closures, which creates frustration among patients.
Incivility is increasing and is increasingly worrying dentists. “We saw patients screaming in all the corridors, a patient spitting on the reception window… These are everyday events,” says Véronique Moulis, dental surgeon and president of the Dental Union of the center Region.
On the front line, medical secretaries who have to face the anger of patients at the office reception.
“They raise their voices, sometimes the doctors have to intervene, once it went far enough, the doctor tried to call the police,” confides Léa, medical secretary.
“Assume the consequences”
According to these professionals, incivility is increasing due to the increase in office closures. These inevitably lead to a drop in available appointments and patient frustration.
A poster campaign has also been launched to raise awareness among visitors upon entering the offices.
“The goal is to tell them ‘be careful, there are lines that must not be crossed because verbal or even physical threats are not acceptable or tolerable and you will be able to assume the consequences’,” explains Clément Nephew, general director of the Dental Union.
Dentists can now, if they wish, follow training to better respond to violence.
