NBA – The former Orlando pivot joined Philadelphia this summer, encouraged by the 2023 MVP who wanted to bring him.
After his best career season, in 2021/22, I am Bamba had a more difficult past season. He was no longer a starter in Orlando, then was transferred to the Lakers where he played too little, due to an injury.
The pivot has bounced back rather well since he signed a one-year contract with an ambitious team in Philadelphia. A choice which is not unrelated to the work of Joel Embiid, with whom he already imagines himself.
“He was probably the most active in my recruitment,” he says to Sixers Wire. “Everyone told me it would be nice for me to come, but Jo was the most insistent. He was the first to turn on the light for me during this free agency. I was looking at other teams, but he spoke with me saying: ‘listen, I’m not telling you where to go, you’re responsible for your career, but it would be good to have you with us’. »
Mo Bamba already has some ties to the Sixers
His relationship with the 2023 MVP is not the only one he has in Philadelphia. Mo Bamba indeed has several connections with Sixers players.
“I have a few connections with guys here. There is Joel obviously. Danny Green is from New York like me. I also know Tobias Harris, who was in Orlando with me. I did almost my entire process before the Draft with De’Anthony Melton, I have the same physical trainer as Tyrese Maxey. I spend my summers with Jaden Springer and Paul Reed. I have Texas ties to PJ Tucker. So I’m on familiar ground with these players. »
And in ambitious territory since Nick Nurse and his players are aiming for the title. What Mo Bamba has not always known since the start of his career, especially with the Magic.
“I tasted a little bit of victory in the playoffs with the Lakers. But we hadn’t done the training camp together and we talked regarding it often. So, doing training camp with a good team is exciting and pleasant. »
