You have to be patient to become a VTC driver in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne)! According to the connection platforms, the exam sessions to obtain the precious sesame are not sufficient in the Pink City. For the exam session this October 2023, nearly 100 candidates registered on time were postponed to the March 2024 session, according to Uber, which points to the too low frequency of sessions and the introduction of quotas in June 2023.
However, in 2021 the State introduced a maximum period of four months between the submission of a candidate’s registration file for the VTC driver exam and the communication of their results. It also requires the organization of at least one exam session per quarter. “The Chamber of Trades and Crafts (CMA) organized three examination sessions per year in Toulouse this year: in March, June and October,” specifies Uber. This frequency of examination almost systematically implies that deadlines are exceeded, particularly between the October and March examinations.
“I resigned from my position to do the training, this delay penalizes me”
A delay of six additional months which slows down candidates in their professional projects, like Rachid Mandor, currently employed in the construction industry who wants to retrain as a VTC driver. “I registered for the October session but was told that there was not enough space and I was moved to the March 2024 session,” he says. I had already resigned from my previous position in order to complete the training, so this delay penalized me and forced me to find work in construction. »
Between January and June 2023, nearly 616 people applied for the VTC driver exam, compared to 465 in 2022. An influx of requests which partly explains the delays in the department. The CMA Occitanie, regional examination center, publishes on its website at the end of the year an established annual regional calendar, specifying the dates and locations of the examination sessions organized in the thirteen departments of the region for the following year.
A candidate residing in any department of France can register and take the exam in Occitanie, and conversely, a candidate residing in one of the thirteen departments of Occitanie can register for a session in another region. Candidates must complete the registration procedures on the national exam registration platform: registration is only validated when the candidate’s file is complete and verified within the deadlines defined by the calendar.
The Chamber of Trades and Crafts refutes any quota
“Registrations are closed when the number of complete files corresponds to the number of places available per examination center,” indicates the CMA Occitanie, which refutes Uber’s accusation of having introduced quotas in June 2023 due to lack of space. nor postponed exam dates for registered candidates. CMA Occitanie organizes VTC exams within the framework set by national regulations, according to its reception and organizational capacities in the 13 departments, with the aim of responding as best as possible to demand.
Thus, 38 exam sessions are organized in 2023 (compared to 29 in 2022). Given the growing demand observed for VTC exams in Occitanie, CMA Occitanie plans to increase the number of exam sessions offered in the region.
