I can’t agree with anyone who thinks that being an actor doesn’t mean you shouldn’t express your opinions

Actor Siddharth, who has created a niche for himself in Tamil and Telugu roles, talks to ‘Mathrubhumi’, sharing his experiences and hopes.

Walking into the suite at the Marriott, the ‘boy’ is sitting on the couch with a smile on his face. The transition from ‘Boi’ to ‘Mani’ is clearly evident as the conversation continues. “I made a big splash on the silver screen with Shankar sir’s ‘Boys’. Now when I go from boy to man I believe that is the graph of my career. The new film Chitta is the beginning of another acting career for me. In modern terms, this is Siddharth 2.0 version.

When Chinna Boy becomes Chitappa

If I was a Chinna Payyan in the movie Boys, I am a Chittapan in the movie Chitta. There have been several movies that tell the story of father-son or mother-daughter relationships. However, this movie tells the story of a girl and her stepfather. This movie goes through very intense emotional connections. I have done several films in Tamil and Telugu in the last 20 years using the visiting card I got from the film Boyz. My favorite is the 20 year old visiting card. For me, it is very gratifying that people are still talking regarding the movie Boyz. It seems to be a very important thing that the Chinnapayan of 20 years ago has now become Chittapan.

Nimisha and Anjali

Malayalam Nimisha Sajayan and Anjali came as the heroines of the movie Chitta because they were suitable for it. The movie Chitta was dubbed into Malayalam following understanding the universal content of that movie. If you watch Chitta in Tamil, it will feel like a story set in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, if you watch it in Malayalam, it will seem like a story set in Kerala. As soon as Nimisha and Anjali came to mind for the characters in Chitta, I felt a positive feeling.

I know the immense range of actress Nimisha. I used to joke that they were all kids when the movie Boyz came out. Both of them have adapted to the characters very well. Sahasra, who played the main character of the film, was selected from an audition of around 700 children. Sahasra has done this character very well.

Fans of Kerala

Kerala is one of my favorite places to visit. I always remember the fun days spent roaming in Fort Kochi. I’m the kind of person who likes to have fans come up and ask for details and take photos even though we lose our privacy. I believe fans in Kerala like me more as a person than as an actor. Many of them have said that they like my thinking and speaking. It was with respect and joy that I heard some Malayali fans say that their views and mine are the same.

I am always me

I am a proud and happy citizen of this great country. There is no need to change that I am a tax payer who cares regarding the country. As a voting citizen I always express my opinions. If someone thinks that because I am an actor, I should not express my opinions, I cannot agree with that. Because my first title is as a responsible citizen of this country rather than an actor. Being a law abiding citizen I have the right to ask questions. My policy of making more use of social media for that purpose will continue.

Mammootty and Mohanlal

My father was a regular visitor to Kerala as part of his distribution work. As a child I have often come to Kerala with my father. When I reached Kerala on Friday, my main program was to watch movies. I watched Mohanlal’s movies more in my childhood. Lalettan’s acting through funny movies was a big admiration from his childhood. Mammooka’s acting skills are like a large university. We can learn a lot from him. I have always been in awe and respect at the same time for the immense talent of Malayalam actors and crew. It is one of my biggest dreams to be a part of Malayalam cinema.

On screen, off screen

I will always be different on screen. My journey there will be from changes to changes. But off screen I will always be the same. Being a film actor has not changed much in my character or lifestyle. Our home, parents, attitude, ideas and character are not changing. When a film comes to me, I ask myself and the director three things. One, will I go and see this movie in the theater? Two, do I like this character? Three, will I learn something new from this movie? If I can answer these three questions, then I have been in that movie. And yet it shall be so.
