Planted in the middle of the small town of Marans, the Simafex factory is doing well. Although classified as Seveso high threshold, this chemical site of 110 employees stands out discreetly in the environment, with its blue and white buildings, including two large production units which dominate the five hectares of land area, or its large processing station. effluent treatment. Built in 1959, the factory of the Marandaise Industrial Manufacturing and Exploitation Company (Simafex), is one of three French Guerbet production sites. The French specialist in medical imaging has directed operations there since 1987, with the manufacture of intermediates and chemical active ingredients intended for its contrast products, particularly for MRIs.
These injectable solutions make it possible to mark targets, such as lesions or tumors, for medical imaging diagnosis. It is here that the laboratory is partly deploying its industrial future, with an investment plan of around 15 million euros initiated in 2018 and which is coming to an end. A program with several components, such as a new administrative building inaugurated on October 5, 2023, following an investment of 4.3 million euros, but also projects to improve the carbon footprint and industrial extensions.
