– “Battlefield”: Dead in outdoor rave on the border with Gaza
Hundreds of celebrating Israelis were shot at with rockets and rifles in the Hamas attack. Survivors had to wait hours to be rescued.

In the Israeli media on Saturday, several participants in an outdoor party reported how they were caught in the crossfire of terrorists during the Hamas attack on Saturday morning. Hundreds were celebrating a trance rave in the desert near Kibbutz Re’im that lasted all night when suddenly the shelling began. According to survivors, the escapees were attacked from all directions and ran away in panic. There are said to have been several deaths.
While some escaped in their cars, others hid for hours in ditches, olive groves or behind trees. “It was chaos,” reports one survivor. “Everyone fled in other directions, people were hit.”
Parents sometimes lost contact with their children as they waited for the security forces hours following the attack. What happened to them is not yet clear. Israeli media reports that it took the military five hours to arrive at the party site.
Several survivors report that it was a “battlefield”; some participants were hit by rockets right at the beginning, others were hit by bullets from terrorists as they fled. There is still no official information regarding victims. Thousands of young adults from all over Israel are said to have taken part in the rave.
According to media reports, the Hamas attackers also kidnapped at least one young woman hostage to Gaza. The Israeli army confirms that several civilians were kidnapped by the terrorists in Saturday’s attack.
