In recent weeks, tour operators have seen the number of bookings explode for winter holidays, with an increase of 40% compared to last year. And the French seem to dream of a change of scenery, since many of them are turning towards America, Africa and even Asia. News that delights professionals in the sector.

If the heat is almost summer-like at the beginning of October, the French are also starting to prepare for their winter vacation. United States, Tahiti, Mauritius, Tunisia, Japan… tour operators are recording an explosion in the number of reservations: +40% compared to last year, which was already a good year.

Asia up 115%

Industry professionals call it the “revenge of tourism”. After the confinements and health restrictions, the French have started to travel a lot once more. A craze that is not dying down, quite the contrary. “It’s incredible, we are at +40% turnover and we find all destinations, including Asia. We sold Japan very well, for example,” says René-Marc Chikli, president. of SETO, the tour operators union. “It’s true that customers have decided to adapt this trip to make it a little less expensive by removing two days for example, but these are still expensive trips that people want to pay for, perhaps once in their life . Indeed, it’s a marker,” he analyzes.

Asia, also driven by Thailand and Vietnam, is up 115%. Reservations early in the season, not to chase promotions, but rather to guarantee a certain price level. “The French have noticed that prices are increasing to the extent that they book at the last minute, in particular because of the increase in air prices,” explains Raouf Benslimane, president of the tour operator Ôvoyages.

More travelers but stable spending per passage, at 2,300 euros on average.
