“There were two complaints of inappropriate behavior, the facts date from the beginning of 2000. I have no information on the victims, the investigation was opened by the police,” reacts Veron Raes, director of the Brothers of the Charité de Ghent, of which Father Patrick was a member.

And according to the testimony of Veron Raes, the Father confessed his guilt before committing suicide. “What was reported there is true, Father Patrick admitted the facts to me. He indicated that he had not yet made a confession during his interrogation, but that he wished to do so,” he adds.

“He was completely upset and felt very uncomfortable. He did not explain the facts themselves to me. He wanted to discuss it with his lawyer. I showed respect for his private life. He had already made an appointment by telephone,” explains the father. He specifies that this did not take place within the monastery itself. “This did not concern primary school children and, to our knowledge, not the children in our establishments. The events probably took place during his private time outside the monastery.”
