Marco Verratti, who now plays in Qatar, is not part of the new Italian selection.
It’s confirmed: Marco Verratti is not part of the plans of Luciano Spalletti, the Azzurri coach who succeeded Roberto Mancini on August 18. This Friday, the latter launched his call for the international gathering in October. And like a month earlier, the former Parisian is not there.
To face Malta in Bari, on October 14, and England at Wembley, three days later – two matches counting for the Euro 2024 qualifiers – the Transalpines will do without the midfielder freshly transferred from Paris to Doha, in Qatar, within the Al-Arabi club. And this despite the playing time recently accumulated by the native of Pescara.
Kean back
In midfield, Luciano Spalletti currently prefers Nicolo Barella, Giacomo Bonaventura, Bryan Cristante, Davide Frattesi, Manuel Locatelli and Sandro Tonali. Note also the return to favor of Juve striker Moise Kean, two years following his last selection, as well as the very first call-up to the A of Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie.
The group called by Luciano Spalletti:
Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG), Alex Meret (Napoli), Ivan Provedel (Lazio), Guglielmo Vicario (Tottenham)
Defenders: Francesco Acerbi (Inter Milan), Alessandro Bastoni (Inter Milan), Cristiano Biraghi (Fiorentina), Matteo Darmian (Inter Milan), Giovanni Di Lorenzo (Naples), Federico Dimarco (Inter Milan), Federico Gatti (Juventus), Gianluca Mancini ( AS Rome), Giorgio Scalvini (Atalanta), Destiny Udogie (Tottenham)
Midfielders: Nicolò Barella (Inter Milan), Giacomo Bonaventura (Fiorentina), Bryan Cristante (AS Rome), Davide Frattesi (Inter Milan), Manuel Locatelli (Juventus), Sandro Tonali (Newcastle)
Attackers: Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo), Federico Chiesa (Juventus), Moise Kean (Juventus), Giacomo Raspadori (Naples), Gianluca Scamacca (Atalanta), Mattia Zaccagni (Lazio), Nicolò Zaniolo (Aston Villa)
