WASHINGTON, October 6, 2023 (Xinhua) US employers added 336,000 jobs in September in a sign of economic resilience, with the unemployment rate remaining unchanged at 3.8 percent, the US Department of Labor said in a report today (Friday).
The report explained that the increase in the number of jobs was achieved in services related to entertainment, hospitality, health care, government, professional, scientific and technical services, and social assistance.
Among the major groups of workers, unemployment rates were for whites (3.4 percent), blacks (5.7 percent), Asians (2.8 percent), and Hispanics (4.6 percent), showing little or no change in unemployment rates among these groups in September.
The latest unemployment report showed that the labor force participation rate in the labor market remained unchanged at 62.8 percent, still slightly below the pre-pandemic level of 63.4 percent.
The average hourly earnings of all employees on private non-farm payrolls rose 7 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $33.88 in September, the report said. Over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 4.2 percent. /end of news/
